History

An important milestone in our journey was our full computerization in 1970, making us the first of our kind to embrace this technology. In 1984, we constructed our state-of-the-art fully racked warehousing facility, further enhancing our capabilities to meet the ever-evolving needs of our clients.

Despite a challenging setback in 1990 during the attempted coup in Trinidad and Tobago, where we incurred significant losses due to countrywide looting, our unwavering determination and resilience led us to a remarkable recovery by 1995. As a testament to our spirit, we expanded our operations by adding adjoining offices to our El Socorro Warehouse. In 1994, we also acquired Alfred Telfer & Co Ltd., a prestigious distributor of ethical pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and OTC products.

In August 2008, a new chapter began for Acado Distribution (formerly known as Hand Arnold) when we became part of Agostini’s Limited, a distribution company with product ranges that beautifully complement our existing lines. This union has further strengthened our capabilities, enabling us to provide an even broader range of quality products and services to our valued customers.

Our journey is one of growth, transformation, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. In February 2025, we transitioned from Hand Arnold to Acado Distribution, a name carefully chosen to reflect the vibrant spirit of Caribbean commerce and Community. It is a symbol of the warmth of our region and a commitment to excellence. Like the vendors who engage in rich, colourful conversations with their customers, we are committed to bringing people and products together across the region. The name ACADO comes from our “can do” attitude, which has allowed us to reach across the Caribbean with our products. It also connects us to our core, our markets (Mercatus and Mercado are the Latin and Spanish words for market).
